Last week we attended this new church to see if the apologetics and theological frame fit our Christian beliefs, I must say the leaning of Pastor Juno Smalley and his denomination's slant on the Word satisfied our system of belief, but when we arrived no one greeted us, no one spoke to us, we just sat listening to the pastor pulpit pound his way into the congregants hearts and minds but for what reason really, to teach them the Word even though they appeared not to follow its precepts? I rather attend a church that the people I come in contact with greet me, the new person down the aisle, rather than I greet them, rather than attend to simply hear the word because that first contact is vital and imperative for the development of spiritual and inter-cultural communication to work. It's also courteous and respectful to that someone, anyone, greet the new people. It should be everyone's duty and sole obligation to make the new people welcomed, especially more so with the pastor.

Second, when a person calls into the front office there should be someone who knows what they are doing when sitting at the receptionist's desk answering phones. I asked to be connected to Pastor Juno's voicemail and the young lady, polite but in an impersonal kind of way, told me: "I don't know how to do that, sorry." Really, you're sorry. Absolutely you are. Why is she working the front office when she is that inexperienced. Why is she even answering the phone in the first place if she has no idea how it's supposed to work. It seems the disorganization at this church is more a disservice but luckily it's not beyond repair.

Hopefully the entire place will get itself straight with both community outreach, customer service to its members, helpfulness to strangers and new comers and then I'll decide if I will return. I pray the Lord will help them find their way.

  • There is an Indonesian mass at 11pm every Sunday. Lunch is served afterwards, a chance to try Indonesian menu. The people are very warm and welcoming. Newcomers are encouraged to join.
